Fabric & authenticity
Is every saree pure silk?
Every saree on the site carries its exact material in the product description, pure silk pieces carry a Pure Silk badge on the product, other sarees are also suitably described in detail.
Weaving & craft
What's the difference between handloom and powerloom?
A handloom saree is woven one motif at a time by a weaver working entirely by hand, which is why the two can look identical in a photo but feel completely different once the fabric is in front of you. A few practical tells: flip the cloth over — a handwoven piece shows short, hand-clipped threads behind each motif, while a powerloom carries one continuous thread straight across the back. Check the finished edge for tiny pinholes and slight thickness variation, left by a hand-dressed loom. Real zari keeps a soft shine when rubbed between your fingers; imitation zari dulls or turns slightly grey. And pure handloom silk sits heavier and cooler in the hand, draping into soft pleats rather than holding a stiff spring.
What does "Hathkargha" mean?
A saree woven entirely by hand on a traditional pit loom, start to finish — our most labor-intensive, most exclusive pieces.
What's the Hindi word shown on some product pages?
The name of that saree's specific weave (Jamdani, Jaal, and so on) written in Devanagari script, alongside the English name.
What you're buying
Is each saree a one-of-a-kind piece?
Yes. Every saree we list is a single, individual piece — once it sells, that exact saree won't be restocked.
Will my saree look exactly like the photo?
Yes — since we carry only one of each saree, the photos shown are of the exact piece you'll receive, not a representative sample or stock image. Photo angles and lighting can sometimes create a slight perceptual difference in shine or shade compared to how the fabric looks in hand, which is true of any photographed silk or fine fabric.
Sizing & what's included
Does a saree come with a blouse piece?
Yes — every saree includes a matching blouse piece, with fall and pico stitching already done.
What all is included with my saree?
Each order includes the saree, its matching blouse piece (fall and pico already stitched), a muslin cloth for safekeeping, and a brocade bag.
Care
How do I care for my saree?
Pure silk sarees (Katan, Kora, Tussar, Satin, Crepe, Mushru) should be dry cleaned only — silk fibers can lose their sheen or shrink with water and standard detergents. Georgette and chiffon pieces can typically be hand-washed in cold water with a mild detergent, but dry cleaning is the safest choice if the piece has zari or embroidery work, since metallic threads can tarnish with repeated washing.
Store folded (not on a hanger, to avoid stress on the fabric) in a cool, dry place, ideally wrapped in muslin or cotton cloth rather than plastic, and refold along different lines every few months so permanent crease lines don't set into the silk.
Shipping
Where do you ship?
Within the US only — every piece is already landed and shipped from our US warehouse in Georgia; there's no international shipping or customs involved.
How long does shipping take, and how much does it cost?
Shipping cost and delivery time depend on your delivery address and the shipping option you choose — you'll see the exact price and estimated delivery window at checkout once you enter your address. We currently offer Standard and Express shipping within the US.
Cart & checkout
I added a saree to my cart — is it reserved for me?
Adding an item to a cart doesn't hold it. Since every piece is one of a kind, the store's system allows the same item to be added to multiple customers' carts, the customer who completes checkout first will receive the confirmation and rest will get an "out of stock" message while checking out.
Returns & damage
Can I return or exchange a saree?
Only in the case of damage. If your saree arrives damaged, report it with photo proof within 24 hours of delivery (based on the delivery timestamp from our shipping carrier). See our full Refund Policy for details.
Small irregularities from handloom or machine-loom weaving are part of the fabric's character, not damage.
Payment
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept Shop Pay, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal.
Can I pay in installments?
Yes — Shop Pay Installments lets you split your purchase into payments at checkout. Eligibility, the number of installments, and any interest are determined by Shop Pay/Affirm based on your order total and location, shown to you directly at checkout.
